In cricket, there are two things that must have in some form or other: a bat and a ball, though cricket can be played with different types of small and round ball like a tennis ball. Materials

The cork, string and leather are the three distinctive materials with which Cricket balls are generally made of.

The cork and string are then covered in leather dyed either red for the test matches or white for one-day and Twenty20 matches. Following the level of cricket being played, the leather case may be, in 2 or 4 pieces. Apart from its two leather “hemispheres” are joined at the “equator” by a series of stitched string seams, the center seam of which is slightly raised. Cricket balls are solid and sparkly. As cricket is the game that involves bowling at high speeds towards  another person, it is vital that the players wear defensive equipment like pads, arm guards, and helmets.

The cricket ball sizes differ following the level of cricket for, examples:

  • For men’s cricket, the weight of the ball is between 155.9 and 163 grams. The diameter of the ball can be between 22.4 and 22.9 centimeters.
  • For women’s cricket, the weight of the ball is between 140 and 151 grams. The diameter of the ball is between 21 and 22.5 centimeters.
  • For the juniors, (under 13) the weight of the ball is 133 to 144 grams

There are certain laws in cricket that stipulate how the ball should be handled. In case a cricket ball is damaged, it must be replaced before the game proceeds. It is required that a new ball be used at the beginning of every new inning whether or not the batting team is following on.
